Heavy Metal Machines is a free-to-play, fast-paced vehicular MOBA with intense multiplayer battles

👤 My Role

Title: Game Designer
Project Phase: Closed Beta through Live Operations
Focus Areas: Character Design, LiveOps Balance, UX Testing, Internal Tools

🛠 Key Responsibilities & Contributions

  • Designed and implemented new playable characters, including Icebringer, Stargazer, Peacemaker, and Vulture

  • Reworked existing characters, improving their gameplay depth, kit clarity, and competitive viability

  • Oversaw character balance during live operations, using player feedback and game data to guide updates and tuning

  • Developed a visual scripting tool in collaboration with engineers to improve content iteration speed and empower the design team

  • Prototyped new features and systems using Unity and visual scripting tools

  • Ran UX testing sessions to improve onboarding, gameplay clarity, and retention

  • Worked cross-functionally with art, engineering, and production teams to align gameplay with creative vision and technical constraints

CHARACTERS

One of my responsibilities as a Game Designer for Heavy Metal Machines was to design, prototype, and implement new characters. Each new character had its own goals for what it should bring to the game, so it was my responsibility to ensure that every new character met its product and design goals.

Icebringer is a Transporter in Heavy Metal Machines that uses his Ice Truck to freeze and control his enemies. He is the first character that drives a big machine, making him unique in his mobility and gameplay. It was my first time leading the process of character creation.
